For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Ian. I’m a veteran of hospitality with 20 years’ experience in the accommodation, F&B and leisure sector. I’m a graduate in International Tourism & Hospitality Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and I sit on the board of the Scottish Tourism Alliance. I’ve run successful, profitable businesses from budget hostels right through to five red star properties and everything in between.
Having just finished almost a decade building the “House of Gods” hotel brand from one to three properties across Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, I decided on a change of direction. I set up Urban Nessie to do what I love. Help independent hospitality thrive.
Why the “Urban Nessie” you ask? Well truth be told, once upon a time I thought it would be a great name for a pub so I bought the web address… anyway, here’s what I do.

No two businesses are the same and your objectives and challenges are unique. My first objective always is to understand and deal with the big issues that really make the difference.
Practical fixes
Magic wands are wonderful, but they don’t exist and neither do bottomless budgets or endless hours in the day. I plan to deliver within your means, sensitive to your business circumstances and the people who work hard for you.
Measurable action
Useful people get things done and do it in a measurable way. My ethos is simple: I work to deliver value for money and I do that by demonstrating amazing results that you can take to the bank.
